Bibimbap really is one of my favourite Korean dishes hands down. The word means "mixed rice", as a bowl of rice is topped with thinly sliced meat (usually beef), sautéed and seasoned vegetables, gochujang (spicy red chilli pepper paste), and a raw egg yolk or fried egg. The assortment of veggies and meat layered on top of rice makes it an extremely tasty and nutritious meal.

I do not have the stone hot pot at home to make it dolsot bibimbap, but if I ever go to a Korean restaurant it is definitely the one thing I will order as the bits of crunchy smokey rice at the bottom makes it super delicious.

However, there isn't really a needed recipe for it, but here is a basic one below if you're clueless! You can mix and match whatever you want in there, meaning you can make it vegetarian if you need. Most of the time my mum makes it based on what ingredients we have at home but here are some ideas:

  • Julienned veggies (fresh or sauteed)- Carrot, cucumber, zucchini.

  • Other veggies which can fresh, blanched, seasoned/sauteed - Beansprouts, mushrooms (daikon or button), spinach, lettuce leaves, radish, cabbage.

  • Seaweed salad

  • Tofu

  • Chicken, beef, pork or seafood

  • Kimchi

  • Kkakdugi (spicy pickled radish)

  • Fresh herbs - coriander, spring onion

Let me know how you go in the comments below!
